Earlier this year, the UK Government announced that it wanted to create “an economy that harnesses artificial intelligence and big data”, noting that it “is one of the great opportunities of our age”. The Government has now allocated an additional £50 million to boost UK Artificial Intelligence (AI).

UK Government moves forward with innovative AI solutions
£50 million is set to be invested in new Turing AI Fellowships. The Government hopes that this allocation will attract “the best global researchers in AI to the UK”.
DCMS Secretary of State Jeremy Wright has said:
“Through our modern Industrial Strategy, we’re joining with industry to invest close to £1 billion in AI, to position the UK as one of the best places in the world to develop and use this exciting new technology.”
Business Secretary Greg Clark is delighted with this allocation of spend and believes that the country is taking huge steps in becoming one of the most technologically innovative countries in the world. At the end of October 2018, he said that:
“The huge potential of Artificial Intelligence to transform our economy and our lives for the better, from revolutionising cancer treatment to combating financial fraud, is at the heart of our modern Industrial Strategy.”
